F.A.Q.

Q: Why should I work with these young doctorates?
Most of our young doctorates have just completed their study recently. They came to the faculty with fresh talents, ideas, great enthusiasm, and a strong networking with their former supervisor(s) & university. Their research areas span across a wide spectrum and are amongst the forefront of knowledge. Students will benefit tremendously from their expertise, experience and research exposure.

Q: Are they competent in supervising?
Most of the young doctorates have experience supervising undergraduate Final Year Project (FYP). They understand what research is about as well as the needs and common issues faced by research students. Most importantly, they are the expert in their respective area. Although this might be the first time they are supervising higher degree students, they are committed to do the best. Besides, they will be supported by more senior faculty members directly or indirectly – as mentor or co-supervisor.

Q: Their research and expertise sounds sophisticated but I don’t understand. What should I do?
Dont’ worry. You are most welcome to attend their research seminar (which will be featured in IDP seminar series) to get a glimpse of what is it actually about. In most instance, these are highly specialized area which research students will have to pick up and learn but rest assure that your engineering foundation will put you in a strong position to have a good start.

Q: How can I finance my study?
Some of the YSI members may have research funding which allow them to employ you as a full time research student (they will be your boss!). In this case, you will have to prove youself to be a viable candidate as the funding is usually for limited number of student only. Alternatively, there are also scholarship/ bursary available from UiTM or Malaysian government.

Q: What should I do if I am interested?
Get in touch! Make an appointment with them and have an open discussion. Let them know your interest and strength. You can also find out more about their area of research and their personality.

Q: Where can I get more information?

Please check with faculty office.
